Benefits for California From the Migration of People From Oklahoma
During the Dust Bowl, California gained many benefits from people migrating to it from Oklahoma. At the time, many people, especially farmers, migrated to California in hopes for a better life and new opportunities. These farmers moved to California because of the great climate for growing crops all year round and because California also had many job opportunities in the agricultural industry that paid good money. These migrants who were moving to California were also called "Okies". In general, California was known to have better and more economic opportunities and many migrant farmers found jobs right away, such as in cotton fields and other types of farming work. During this period of migration, the population of California greatly increased. The state of California initially thought that the increased migration would help improve the economy because the more people working the better the economy would become. Many people came to California with big hopes and dreams of a much better life than what they were experiencing with the Dust Bowl back in Oklahoma and for a while, California had this great reputation. However, life in California did not turn out to be as great as the migrants dreamed it would be.
