Impact on California and America
Overall, the impact on California from this migration affected it in both good and bad ways. In the beginning of the Dust Bowl, when migration to California was very little, the state was thought of as a paradise and a great place to live. The climate in California was perfect for farmers who could grow crops all year, and there were many good paying jobs available. As the migration continued, however, California began to suffer form overpopulation and it became harder for migrants to find jobs to the point that California started turning new migrants away. All of this placed a great deal of hardship on the migrants and gave California a bad reputation. California was not the only state affected by this swarm of migrants moving away from the Dust Bowl. Many states close to California also experienced the same problems. These states included Washington, Oregon, and Arizona. All in all, the Dust Bowl caused one of the biggest migration events in the history of America, which had huge impacts in both positive and negative ways on many of the western states, and changed many of the Dust Bowl migrants' lives mainly for the better.
